An error message appears when a HotSync operation is being executed: Cannot HotSync because the port is in use by another application or device, COM port is not available, or port open.
Solution/Answer:
There could be a few reasons for the error message. To prevent the error message :
1. Ensure that the USB cradle or cable is connected directly to the computer. (not through a USB hub or another USB device) 2. Ensure that the CLIE is securely connected to the USB cradle/cable. 3. In the Taskbar System Tray, click the HotSync Manager icon. 4. In the HotSync Manager menu, ensure Local USB is checked. 5. Perform a HotSync operation. 6. If the issue still persist, please perform a soft reset on it. 7. Perform a HotSync operation again. 8. If the issue still persists, please perform a hard reset on it.
WARNING: There is a data loss risk when performing resets. Performing a hard reset will delete all added programs, updates and records stored on the CLIE.
